MISSION : All Systems GO! is a joint initiative from NASA’s Chief Health and Medical Officer, SCaN, and the Cancer Moonshot Program, developed in close partnership with Fred Hutchinson Cancer Research Center and the National Association of Proton Therapy. The project goal is to transform treatment spaces into inspiring, NASA-style “Mission Control Rooms.” These orientation materials provide patients with a general idea of their expectations for the cancer treatments they will receive, through the lens of astronauts on an important mission, complete with badges, certificates, decals, and motivational briefing videos.
For this project, I created hand-drawn illustrations and designed the characters used in the materials, giving each visual asset a unique, approachable personality suited for children facing serious treatment, but also working to ensure a general audience appeal - so these materials can be used for patients of all ages. I collaborated directly with both the Fred Hutch Cancer Center team and the NASA HQ outreach team to craft the video script—striking the right tone of courage, hope, and fun. Finally, I produced and edited the video materials, weaving illustrations and script into engaging, emotionally resonant briefing pieces, one focused on treatment and another featuring veteran astronaut Kjell Lindgren.
I worked with the HQ outreach team to design wall murals, decals, monitor displays, posters. These along with the briefing videos create a cohesive, immersive experience for patients. By combining compelling visuals with an authentic NASA narrative, this work elevates “MISSION: All Systems Go” from a resource kit to a transformative, hopeful journey for those undergoing treatment.
